april 30th - authentic

authentic – a.,
not false; true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character

The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering
– Ben Okri

We create a life, a world, a universe. Made from the fragments of realness that surround us and the snippets of dreams we allow ourselves to indulge in. Mixed with hope and pride and knowledge. With a dash of logic but a whole heap of imagination.
We create.

We overcome the bumps, the hiccups, the curve-balls. Thrown at us from nowhere, we weave a path through the bombarding elements. They keep us on our toes. We set our goals and push on through the thickness. And if we bother to look, we are shown beauty we never thought existed.
We overcome.

We brave the knock backs, fall outs and looks of confusion. Finding solace in our knowledge that we don’t have to do what everyone else is doing, we don’t have to be like everyone else that walked before us.
We endure.

We shift. We meld. We alter. Along the way, our greatest attributes and weakest stiches are made apparent and we learn what wonders the universe offers us in order to achieve our dreams.
We transform.

We open our spirits to the possibility that kindness and care are abundant. We help, listen, support. In the face of adversity, we persevere. When the piercing eyes of judgment or voices of doubt enter our stratosphere, we stand strong and calmly hold out our hands and hearts to those in need.
We love.

We are children. We are always learning. The knowledge of our ability to change the world moves our feet to a different beat. To live. To love. To Be. That is what we strive to experience.
We are greater than our suffering.

No life form is greater than another, all are bound in an intricate and delicately balanced patter of co-existence.

To those who get my drift, feel ma words, are down like James Brown: I am honored to exist in your existence.
PEACE

march 20th - silence

“we’re fascinated by the words – but where we meet is in the silence behind them.”
– Ram Dass

Silence has become somewhat of a refuge for me of late.
Where I used to blast my ears with songs of joy or bass or instrumental brilliance, I choose to run to the sound of my breath and the breeze.
Where I once filled space with the inconsequential noise of the television, I instead fill my mind with calm as I draw or colour or read.
Even the sound of typing, which can either mean productive steps towards a finished essay or creative feats being explored, and usually equates to a giant smile or a self-induced pat on the back, has got my ears wincing.
More and more I find the words counting for less and the actions speaking for more. The words, though instructive and at times even clear, fall flat in comparison to the outcomes of movement.
The pure form of showing care rather than describing it.
Of physical expression as opposed to analysed impression.
The incredible force that can be experienced from the smallest of gestures: a wave, a smile, an actual push of encouragement.

For in silence I’ve witnessed and been subject to more acts of love, kindness, compassion and interest then one would guess possible. In silence we see people more clearly. We see the world more clearly.

Sometimes life is what happens when there isn’t a question, an answer or a riddle.
All there is is you and I behind the words & in that beautiful and encompassing silence.
PEACE
